I read this "editorial" by Mitch Albom in The Record from January 6. Mitch Albom writes for The Detroit Free Press and has authored many inspirational novels and essays. In this article which I'll summarize, Mr. Albom, once and for all, sets "new rules" for 2010 - judge for yourself, but, they are both funny and worthwhile!
1. All adults must teach a child, not their own, until there is no more illiteracy.
2. Bye, bye Facebook!
3. All politicians are gone after two terms.
4. Wrap it up, Harry Potter!
5. New rule: You can't play Guitar Hero until you can actually play a guitar.
6. You drink and drive a second time and it's jail for a year.
7. High schoolers - NO texting, e-mailing, or cell phone until you've tried human interaction.
8. Good-bye, Simon Cowell!
9. We all agree - Michael Jackson is not the Savior. And...
10.If you are beaten, harassed cheated on or abused, you cannot go on a talk show.
...So, what do you think? Which rules ring true for you? Wish to add any "new rules" of your own?

iAgree with all of the rules you have put up Mr.Flynn.
But there are some i disagree with such as...
2. because its fun facebooking because its safer than Myspace and better than twitter -___-
5. iThink that you are being a little dotty about "if caught the 2nd time; jail for a year". iThink your going over board just a little. Instead; i think they should just do comunity service for a # of hours.
I agree with all of the list except Facebook, the abused one, and the texting one because we need Facebook, I myself have become addicted, but I need it, how else can I reach someone faster than text. I don't have a problem with the texting thing anyway because I hardly have either type of interaction, besides through school and sports. I really think that the people who go on these talk shows show positive messages.
The only reason I'm okay with the Simon Cowell thing is that now that Paula's gone what's gonna happen to American Idol? I thought there fights made the show a lot better.
Writers...Thank you for your responses. remember...I didn't write these rules, but, they do make one pause and think, right? Kind of funny and yet, perhaps, "necessary" (?)...
Some of these rules are preposterous.
Such as rules 2,5,7.
Facebook is actually a really great thing not too many adults understand. Its a place where you can have a good time from the comfort of your house, and just talk with friends about life
Why can't i play Guitar hero if i don't play guitar? Thats just stupid. Its nothing like a real guitar its a video game ,which people who like rock music should be able to enjoy.
No texting or emailing before human interaction? Some people get nervous around new people in person. So they text or talk on the phone to get used to the person, then when you actually meet them, you aren't as nervous and are comfortable talking to them.
Aside from those rules, the rest are pretty fair in my opinion
the only one i agree with is number three.
Rules 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 i agree with, with Simon leaving American Idol, drunk drivers becoming more and more dangerous, and the fact that the old lady from Harry Potter is getting really old. Rules 2, 5, and 7 are just silly. I mean, i don't know anybody who plays Guitar Hero and knows how to play guitar.
Bye bye Facebook? You'd have to rip the keyboard out of my cold, dead hand. ^_^
Well...maybe we can compromise on the "Facebook rule"...as long as we constructively communicate useful information - deal?

Mm ... No, I'm not saying bye-bye to Facebook. ):
But yes, I agree with 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9. 10 seems a little unfair to me because talk shows -might- be helpful. I'm sixteen and have never been beaten, harassed, cheated on or abused so I wouldn't know what would be helpful in such situations. (:
