After you have read "A Day's Pleasure" in your literature book, ask yourself - "Is there anything really different today that would make the past totally irrelevant in 2009?" What happened in the story among all the characters that does, in fact, resemble us in the 21st century? Aside from the technology, don't people make choices and interact along the same guidelines we follow today?
There's a saying - "You can never go back..." I disagree. We can, and we should! Not as an escape from the difficult times, but, a place of remembrance and a source of ideas we can bring back and help us cope. You agree? Let us know.

A quote I learned once was, "If you don't know your past your doomed to repeat it." I can relate to this because my moms life is kinda like hers, except the technology, the sports, and all the other stuff, its very similar. My mom does laundry and clean all day and then she drives everyone everywhere and back, and at the end of the day she is so tired, and then either my dad or me walk in the house and the first thing we say is, "What's for dinner?" She has friends, she goes out, and has fun, so she isn't always tired and has more fun than Mrs. Markham, but she still is tired like Mrs. Markham so in a sense times really haven't changed in family life, to me. So it is true.

I think the way humans that humans react to each other are basically the same as in the past and today. In a day's pleasure the mrs. is upset because the husband always goes to town and she doesnt because she has to run the house. Well we can put that in today's terms as well lets so we have a stay at home mom and a working dad the dad maybe goes out to the bars a lot with his friends while the mom must always take care of the kids and run the house. The mom wants to go out every once in a while and is upset with the dad. The same rules can apply as in the past and in the future.

I agree with Deek and Michael. The past is not irrelevant to 2009 its just that back in a days pleasure the enviroment and the people were different than today.
