"Energy Independence"

I know...I know..."Energy Independence" might go the way of an oxymoron - it's a contradiction, in this global economy, according to the research. But, since the spike in fuel prices has risen so rapidly, I'm beginning to wonder, "Why can't this formidable , world leader, the United States of America, invent or create an energy system that will wean us off dependence on foreign, not national, fuel supplies? Remember our response to the Soviets in 1958 who launched the first satellite? We were on the moon by the fewer than 10 years later! I don't know about you, but, $5 for a gallon of a petroleum based fuel that might be superseded by a source of energy found right here in our own backyard is simply unacceptable!

I think Sarah Palin is right. We should be comfortable depending on our off- shore oil reserves and the oil fields in the North Slope of Alaska. Plus, energy independence looks better on the global stage anyway!
